Under the Sea

I haven't posted in forever. I've been sick, traveling, lecturing, taking part in the organizational clusterfuck that was the Chicago marathon. All of these things made me feel flighty and unanchored, drifting from one event and deadline to another. That might have been worrisome had it gone on very long. Not to worry. This weekend I'm working on a ten-page funding proposal. I hate funding proposals. I am abysmal at writing funding proposals. My advisor thinks the problem is that I try too hard to be expressive. She's wrong. The problem is that funding proposals shut me up and shut me down like nothing else. I have nothing to say. As a result, I feel like someone encased my feet in concrete and dropped me off of the nearest bridge. I'm heavy, I'm stuck, I'm just hanging out here, fifty-feet under water and nowhere to go. There's some spectacular kelp and a school of sardines just swam by. That was interesting. This funding proposal is not. I've got some blog posts in draft, and I'll get them up here soon. But until then, I just thought I'd wave from under the sea.
